Tumescent Lipo

Tumescent Microcannular Liposculpture

Tumuscent liposuction refers to a technique that uses large volumes of very dilute local anaesthesia being injected into the body fat. This causes the targeted area to become tumescent, or swollen and firm. Local anaesthesia used in the tumescent technique is so effective that patients no longer need a general anaesthetic.

The tumescent technique is by far the safest form of liposuction and it has become the world wide treatment of choice in fat removal from the face and body.

Microcannula connected to a gentle suction device are used to dislodge the fat which is then removed. The microcannular used are smaller and finer than those used in traditional liposuction. The insertion points are very small, there are no cuts made and no stitches are required afterwards. This allows for more gentle and precise fat removal, with a much shorter recovery period.

This technique revolutionised liposuction surgery when it was developed by Dr Jeffrey Klein, a dermatologist in California in 1985. Dr Klein has performed over 8000 tumescent liposuction techniques and has taught hundreds of aesthetic doctors at his specialist centre.

Dr Puneet Gupta at the Chiltern Medical clinic is the only doctor in the UK that has been trained directly by Dr Klein himself.
