Laser Hair Removal
- on any part of the body
Why is Hair Removal the best solution?
Our Laser offers effective results while maintaining the
normal appearance of the skin. It uses the best technology
currently available for hair removal, offering outstanding
results with the widest range of skin tones and hair colours.
The laser beam penetrates your skin and gets absorbed in the
hair follicle residing under the skin surface. The laser energy
destroys the follicle with the heat that it generates. Because
the laser beam is large in diameter, it affects a large number
of hairs simultaneously.
What can I expect during the treatment?
Before treatment, it is important to make sure that any long
unwanted hair is cut, flush with the skin. Patients agree that
the procedure is not unduly painful, and certainly much less
uncomfortable than electrolysis.
To reduce discomfort, a cooling system automatically removes
heat from the surface of your skin before, during and after the
laser exposure. You will not need a general anaesthesia or pain
medication, but a topical anaesthetic cream may be applied to
sensitive areas.
How many treatments will be needed?
The number of treatments required to obtain optimal
results varies with hair density, hair colour, skin types,
the treatment area and your hair growth cycle. The density
of your hair and its growth cycle are affected by many
things such as your age, ethnic background, hormones or
medications. Laser treatments impair the growth capacity of
hair follicles when they are in a growth cycle at the time
of treatment. All hair follicles are not active at the same
time. Depending upon the growth cycle of the follicles when
the treatment is applied, several treatments with a few
weeks in between may be required to obtain the optimal
effect. |

Is laser hair removal permanent?
At Chiltern Medical Clinic, we only use lasers that are
approved for permanent hair reduction by the United States
Federal Drug Administration. This means most patients will
achieve long-term, stable reduction in the number of hairs
re-growing in the treated areas. The amount of permanent
reduction increases with the number of treatments. Occasionally,
you may have a few hairs regrow over a period of time.
How long do the treatments take?
We can treat some areas in only a few minutes. Others, such
as the back or legs, require 20-40 minutes. For example, the
underarms or bikini lines take only fifteen minutes.
What should I expect following the treatment?
Once the treatment is complete, the area exposed to the laser
is cleansed and you are free to return to your normal routine.
Some patients may experience a slight reddening around hair
follicles following the treatment, which typically disappears
within a few minutes. It is always recommended to avoid sun
exposure or to use sunscreen following the laser treatment.
Hair follicles affected by the laser are lifeless and your
body will attempt to cast them off over a period of time. It
will seem that the hair continues to grow for one to two weeks
after the procedure, but in fact these lifeless hairs will
easily fall out.
Can you treat darker skin colours?
At Chiltern Medical Clinic, we have the newest lasers that
have been specifically designed to treat all skin colours. They
are safe, affordable, and can achieve the same permanent hair
reduction as seen in lighter skin types.
Is laser hair removal safe?
Since only light is used to remove hair, it is totally
non-invasive. Your eyes will be shielded during the treatment.
While there is a slight chance of skin irritation and pigment
changes, these are rare due to the type of lasers used at
Chiltern Medical Clinic and the training of our staff.
